Lenten Healing Icon Writing Retreat. March 18-21, 2025
TUESDAY- FRIDAY: 9:30 AM -5:00PM. Church of the Redeemer, 225 South Palm Ave. Sarasota, Fl. 34236
We start the morning with gathering and setting up then attend the 10:00am service, come back and work until 1:00 with a break for lunch, then return and work until attending 5:00 evening prayer each day.
This immersive four-day workshop is designed for all levels, including complete beginners! You do not have to be an artist to write icons!
We use natural Pigments, eggs, and 23K gold leaf to creat beautiful Byzanitine style icons. All materials will be provided for this class. Small watercolor brushes, pencils, extra sketching paper, paper towels, and any other supplies that you wish to bring will be helpful..
I provide the drawing, for you to trace on tracing paper and I will show you how to transfer it to the Icon board. For icon models, we always find icons that were created before the Renaissance to copy. I will explain more during class and give a talk on the History of Icons..
· Work with traditional materials of egg tempera and gold leaf gilding and learn methods of Byzantine Iconography.
· Through prayer, we invite God into the process of creating an icon, and it becomes a visible sign of God’s Presence not only for us, but for those who will view the icon.
· There will be Icon History powerpoint talks, as well as many step by step painting demonstrations each day. Christine will give individual instruction and share insights and helpful techniques all along the way.

Archangel Raphael is the Archangel of Healing. His story is beautifully told in the Book of Tobit, in the Apocrypha.
Our prayers and discussion will include prayers for intercessory healing. Christine is a Member of the Order of Saint Luke- an Episcopal ministry that prays for the healing for all peoples. Healing can be physical, inner healing, and especially healing any blocks to our relatiotionship with God.
THE CHURCH OF THE REDEEMER, an Episcopal church on beautiful Sarasota Bay, will host our time together. We have the option of attending the morning service at 10:00am, and Evening Prayer at 5:15Pm each day.
ACCOMMODATIONS ; There are many excellent restaurants nearby, a list will be provided upon arrival. Hotels vary, definitely book in advance- it will be peak season, with sunny skies and temperatures in the high 60’s and low 70’s.
