Sep 28 Icon Writing Retreat at Casa Anglicana, Santiago Spain

May 5-9, 2025 Hosted by Casa Anglicana del Peregrinos in Santiago, Spain

· Work with traditional materials of egg tempera and gold leaf gilding and learn methods of Byzantine Iconography. while painting an Icon of Saint James.

· Through prayer, we invite God into the process of creating an icon, and it becomes a visible sign of God’s Presence not only for us, but for those who will view the icon. We are so blessed to be able to write an Icon of Saint James in this special and Holy place of pilgrimage.

· There will be Icon History powerpoint talks, as well as many step by step painting demonstrations each day. Christine will give individual instruction and share insights and helpful techniques all along the way.

The icon retreat is hosted right in Santiago, at the Casa Anglicana Pilgrim Center. Join us for this amazing opportunity to not only learn more about the miracles of Saint James and the Camino de Campostela, but you will also create your own Icon of Saint James to keep and bring home with you as a reminder of your pilgrimage. Students may arrive anytime Monday, May 5, and there will be a light communal dinner of tapas, Monday night.

Classes will be held Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, May 6-9

Breakfast is from 8-10AM at the Casa , we may have optional morning prayer at the Casa, and Evensong at nearby Santa Susannah Church.

On Friday, May 9, Bishop Carlos will bless the icons at Evensong and we will have an informal communal dinner at San Martin Pinario.

The workshop ends after breakfast. Saturday, May 10.

Christine Hales
