about

CHRISTINE SIMONEAU HALES

Graduating from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston in the early 80’s’s, after receiving the painting award for outstanding achievement, Christine travelled to England to follow the work of Francis Bacon and other English painters. Hales taught drawing workshops in Plymouth, and eventually settled in Cornwall.  Here she became familiar with the work of the St. Ives artists.

Eventually returning to Massachusetts, Hales got an artist’s grant from the Nantucket Arts Council and worked there for one year.  She then moved to New York City to continue her study of classical ballet and maintained a loft in Chelsea for painting for the next thirteen years.

She holds a BFA n Painting and Art Education from the Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, and an MS in Art Therapy from the College of New Rochelle, NY, and has studied at the Artists League of New York, The National Academy of Design NY,NY, and Institute of Fine Arts, Florence, Italy.

Her paintings and icons have been in many national group exhibitions as well as several one person exhibits in New York. Reviewed in the New York Times and featured in Hudson Valley Magazine, Christine’s landscapes reflect the artist’s love of nature and transformation. Her work as an iconographer is in many churches, public, and private collections. Please view her CV for a more detailed list. She now lives and works in Sarasota, Florida with her photographer husband, Mick Hales.
