July 16-19, Tuesday evening through Friday lunch.

Understanding Iconic color and light is essential to writing Icons. This is a great retreat if you want to understand the Byzantium color mixing system and be able to apply that to mixing your own colors. We will write an Icon of Christ for this retreat.  If you have a different Icon you’d like to paint, email Christine with the image and you can work together before the class to make that possible.

Color Theory

Since the Greeks understood color harmony, we will study the Greek Key.  This is an almost forgotten color system that will simplify your color mixing for Icons.  Because you will learn more detailed information about Icon writing History,  this color theory will help your color choices.  We will also  have a slide presentation comparing religious painting vs Icon writing as a way of understanding the difference in your own Iconography.

$610  Costs include Tuition, materials, and room and meals at the Monastery.
