All summer I was blessed to be able to work on this life sized Icon of the Blessed Mother.  Commissioned by Saint Patrick’s Church in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, it was truly a collaborative project.  Father Aidan brought his creativity and spirituality to the design process by requesting the Jupiter lighthouse- a nearby local attraction- be included in the composition .   Also wanted was a beautiful sunset sky color for the background and twelve scenes from the life of Mary arranged around the borders.

Working this Icon was an opportunity for me to deepen my relationship with the Blessed Mother and learn more about her.   Clearly, she always pointed to Jesus, and He is the very center of the Icon.

Mary’s Confidence in God

One of the things I felt that God showed me while writing this Icon was the complete confidence Mary had in God and in God’s plan for her life.  This confidence allowed her to say “yes” to God under every circumstance.  Her grace and life of prayer has blessed the world.

Icon Classes:

I’ve updated my website with new Icon classes.   Feel free to email me with any questions- I hope to see you at one of them this year!  And here is more information on the Florida Icon Classes for this Lent.

Also, two indispensable classes for advanced Iconographers are at the Holy Cross Retreats this spring and summer.  You can take these classes even if a beginner.  If you are advanced and have a particular Icon you would like to work on in class, email me.

Blessings and prayers,

Christine Simoneau Hales
